Pericles,
Pericles Greek, strategist and Athenian statesman, was born in 495 BC and died
in 429 BC
He was a supporter of democracy and his political
decisions were imposed and accepted by most citizens.
Elected strategist in 443 BC he maintain this position
for 15 years and reign of Athenian political life for 30 years.
He opens the magistracies to all citizens, regardless
of wealth, by random drawing and the relinquishment of Ceus conditions
(Royalties)
He was the instigator of the constitution BY THENON,
the Propylaea and other important buildings from this period on ACROPOLIS.
Pericles, Anaxagoras student attracted a crowd of
scholars and artists that allowed the city to claim the title of Cultural
Capital of Greece.
It is necessary to remember also that Pericles was
also the uncle and guardian of Alcibiades who will be one of the most famous
pupils of Socrates.
Throughout antiquity to the present day, the Athenian
remained a model and reference for all admirers of Ancient Greece.
As regard with the impact of Pericles on the emerging
talent of his time, it is important to note that one of the few politicians
that TNUCYDIDE admire unreservedly in his history of the Peloponnesian War, it
is indeed Pericles. He takes pains to reconstruct two of the most important
speech of Pericles. These two speeches are:
- Advice to the Athenians on the requirements of the
Peloponnesians
- The first eulogy of Athenian soldiers who died
during the Peloponnesian War.
The influence and the character of Pericles were so
great during that period, to such an extent that this period was called
"the age of Pericles."
